Assertion Analysis #4:John Fire Lame Deer
Before the white men came in the picture , the natives Americans were here first , they had their own land . One of the Indians were name John Fire Lame Deer , in he’s book Seekers of Visions. He talks about how life was before the white men arrived . Throughout he’s passage John uses tricolon , satire and connation to show how civilized they were before the white men came and took over everything .
John Fire Lame Deer explains in the text how life was before the white men arrived , he points out reasons on why it was better before the white men arrived such as they didn’t have to lock their doors because there were no criminals or thieves . If anyone needed anything such as a tent or a blanket or anything they would receive it as a gift so they wouldn’t have to steal anything . “was so poor couldn’t afford a tent ... he would receive it all as a gift .” This quote explains a lot because it showed how they were all loyal to eachother they were all just one , instead of being divided . Prior to white imperialism they didn’t know what prisons we’re back then , they had no laws , no locks nor any keys. They had everything going great before the white men had showed up and ruined everything . When the natives were here everybody was treated the same no matter if you were poor or rich they never divided anybody because of what enconmic party they were in . Everybody was labeled the same no matter what .
John uses forms of satire and tricolon within his passage . He use satire in his message when he saractisly said “we were in bad shape before the white men arrived” . The natives Americans were fine before the white men had arrived. That quote shows to me that the white men just came to take over and claim they made the natives better people , when they didn’t . In the text , he also uses tricolon to show they were all one . If one needed something then everybody got it “ a horse , a tent or a blanket” he said that because he wanted to let the readers know before the white men arrived to make them “civilized “ they were already they didn’t need them coming and destroying the foundation they built with there nation . The natives had it easy and it all got destroyed .
Today , much of that cultural heritage is lost . Native children’s were forced out of their homes and placed into boarding schools created just for them and forced to learn English which is not right . They was also punished for practicing their traditional spiritual beliefs , which effectively destroyed most of the oral history surrounding Native Americans.
